Business Briefcase

Hello, readers! Today has quite the interesting array of briefs, as a Glendale legend is back – in a new way. Beyond that, I will touch back on one of the items from last week’s agenda. And then I have a few networking-centric events you may want to check out. So, let’s get into it! Here’s the news!

First, La Perla Sports Cantina is about a month in at 5723 W. Glendale Avenue. A newly invigorated incarnation of the city’s historic Mexican food staple La Perla Café, which closed several years back, La Perla Sports Cantina aims “to carry on the tradition of downtown Glendale’s official and favorite watering hole,” according to its Facebook.

Open since March, La Perla now offers an array of choices ranging from burgers to chicken tenders, fish and chips to burritos and tacos, and wings to patty melts. Keeping in line with its cantina atmosphere, alcoholic beverages are available for the adults. But there are also nonalcoholic options. For more information, find it on Facebook @laperlasc.

Then, the Roadrunner Harley-Davidson, which I mentioned last week should open near Pebble Creek Parkway and McDowell Road in Goodyear in fourth quarter 2019, will staff upward of 30 fulltime employees. Currently under construction, you may be wondering why Goodyear is relevant if you missed last week’s column. Well, its owner is the same one as the Arrowhead location. For more information, visit roadrunnerharley.com or find it on Facebook @roadrunnerhd.

Moving along, the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) is planning a business tax workshop from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Glendale Council Chambers, 5850 W. Glendale Avenue. The workshop will focus on transaction privilege tax basics for businesses – specifically licensing and reporting, location-based reporting, tax rates, exemption certificates, exemptions and deduction codes, added tax versus tax factoring, and calculating and reporting tax. Attendance is free, and guests are encouraged to bring their own devices. For more information, contact the ADOR Outreach District at eandcoutreach@azdor.gov or visit https://bit.ly/2X5TPMW.

Speaking of events, you’ll surely want to dress for success – and bring a resume – if you plan to attend Jobertising.com’s West Valley Diversity Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Topgolf, 6101 N. 99th Avenue. It is free and open to the public. For more information or to RSVP, visit https://bit.ly/2Gg5OBK or jobertising.com/careerfair-glendale-may-2019.

Keeping on the subject of careers, the Western Maricopa Coalition (WESTMARC) and Career Connectors have once again partnered with Arizona@Work and Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizozna for the West Valley Healthcare Career Expo. Set from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Avondale Sports Center, 755 N. 114th Avenue, confirmed participants are AMMS/MDIG, Honor Health, Sun Health, Abrazo, the Arizona Department of Health Services, Brighton College and Medical 360. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/2UchitO.

Headquartered in Glendale, WESTMARC is a coalition of public, private and education leaders that is committed to the West Valley’s economic vitality and enhanced quality of life. Founded in 1990, the coalition membership is comprised of the cities of Avondale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Gila Bend, Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Peoria, Phoenix, Sun City, Sun City West, Surprise, Tolleson, Wickenburg and Youngtown.

That’s all the briefs for this week. Thanks for reading!
