Manuel Cruz, 48, and former candidate for mayor in the 2012 election, died early morning May 12 at his home surrounded by family. Cruz had been diagnosed with cancer in September shortly after pulling nomination papers to make a run for Arizona State Mine Inspector. He had spent most of his career as an explosives engineer and mine safety officer.
Cruz is survived by his wife, Val Revering, and the couple’s five children: Chris, Jon, Kym, Molly, and Jessica.
Services will be held noon May 16 in the Serenity Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave. A reception and celebration of Mr. Cruz’s life will be held 2 to 4 p.m. at Bitzee Mama’s, 7023 N. 58th Ave.
