Greenberg celebrates 50 years with Seely, Mullins

Loren I. Greenberg is celebrating 50 years of service with Seely, Mullins & Associates, P.C., a local certified public accounting firm in Glendale.

His employer said, “Loren has truly been an asset to the firm and the community.”

It was a typical hot day in Glendale, when 30-year-old Greenberg showed up for his first day at work. As Greenberg tells it, he showed up wearing a three-piece suit. This was the “uniform” worn by accountants in California, from where he and his wife, Barbara, had just relocated.

John Seely, founder of the firm and partner in charge, took one look at him, laughed and explained, “We don’t dress like that here.”

That set the stage for what will take place June 20, Greenberg’s 50th year with the firm.

Greenberg graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants. Past affiliations include the Jewish Family & Children’s Services, Jewish Education Council and the Valley of the Sun United Way. He has held the position of treasurer for the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott for more than a decade. The organization has bestowed the Prescott community with many grants and sponsored events that have been vital to the community.

Greenberg was promoted to partner in 1976; in 1984 he was made partner in charge of the newly opened office in central Phoenix where he remained for five years. In 1993, Greenberg again left the nest to open an office in Surprise. He has been active in the Sun City/Surprise communities for more than 25 years.

Greenberg is a member of the Lions Club of Sun City; he also served as president from 1995 to 1996. He has twice been awarded the Lions highest honor: the Melvin Jones Award.

Over the last half century, the firm expanded to more than 50 employees and four offices before technology advancements, specialized software and attrition allowed it to consolidate its resources into the Glendale office while still providing excellent service. The firm will celebrate its 60th year in 2019.

Seely, Mullins owners said, “The shareholders and staff have been fortunate to work and associate with Greenberg. His talent, knowledge and personality have been an asset to clients and staff alike.”
