A West Valley man was arrested by Glendale police after he stole the identity of a man and purchased a vehicle.

According to a police spokesperson, 55-year-old Charles Harrison Poole used a fake identity to buy a vehicle from several car dealerships in Glendale.

Poole reportedly told officers his friend had been dead for more than a year and because they are similar in appearance, he used the deceased man’s driver’s license and Social Security card to get approved for numerous vehicle purchases. He was unable to complete the transactions because he did not have a current pay stub in the deceased man’s name.

Poole was arrested in north Phoenix Nov. 9 and, according to a police spokesperson, they found him in possession of the deceased man’s Social Security card and told officers where he had hid the victim’s driver’s license. Poole was charged with multiple counts of identity theft.
