Chocolate bears

Chocolate bears line sheet pans at Cerreta Candy Company, ready to be decorated by attendees of the 14th annual Teddy Bear Day in downtown Glendale on Sept. 8.

The 14th annual Teddy Bear Day event takes place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 in downtown Glendale.

With friends, family and your favorite furry bears, embark on a day of make-and-take arts and crafts and exclusive deals. Begin at the event information booth at the Arizona Doll & Toy Museum at 5847 W. Myrtle Ave. 

Pick up the event map and visit with Al the Bear. The huggable bear will delight the young and young at heart from 10 a.m. to noon. Be sure to take a camera to get a picture with this beary special guest.

Additionally, Bears & More will be selling safety-approved teddy bears for $10. The bears will be donated to the Glendale Fire Department Trauma Teddy program, Glendale Police Department, local emergency rooms and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Many businesses throughout the downtown including Gracie’s Marketplace and The Astrology Store will be accepting monetary donations to benefit the Trauma Teddy program.

Hop on the event shuttle sponsored by the Glendale Ambassadors to travel throughout the downtown area, visiting boutique stores, specialty shops and downtown eateries for special offers, discounts and activities (some have a nominal fee), including decorating a chocolate bear at Cerreta Candy Co., frosty beverages at 4 Cousins Lemonade Stand, Arizona Search Dogs demonstrations and a bear-themed craft at Velma Teague Library. Additional activities include cookie decorating at Coyote Oatie; a face painter and balloon artist at Glendale Flowers & Gifts; a princess in the courtyard of Brelby Theatre Co.; make-and-take bookmarks at Carrie’s Salon; and a Teddy Bear Tea at Kimberly Ann’s Tearoom at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

ABD Antiques will have on-site verbal appraisals by appointment for $20 per item (excluding jewelry, coins and stamps) and  Juniper House will feature a “beary” detox foot massage for $10.

In addition, Glendale Fire Department and Glendale Police Department vehicles will be on display. Many more activities will be featured.
