The Glendale City Council has appointed several residents to serve on advisory boards and commissions.
They are Ron Cohoe (chair) and Carl Duggins (vice chair), Aviation Advisory Commission; Arneida Miller, Citizens Advisory Commission on Neighborhoods; Garrett Simpson, Citizens Bicycle Advisory Committee; Marlene Versluis, Historic Preservation Commission; Leland Peterson (chair), Glendale Municipal Property Corporation; Jerry Berntsen (chair) and Terrance Mead (vice chair), Judicial Selection Advisory Board; Edgar Hernandez, Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission; and Herbert Haley and Richard Westby, Personnel Board.
Glendale's boards and commissions assist the City Council in making important policy decisions that impact the community.
These volunteer citizen advisory groups research, study and discuss specific Glendale projects and issues and then forward their recommendations to the City Council. Board and commission members must reside in Glendale.
Residents can request an application to serve on a citizen advisory group or obtain more information by calling the Council Office at 623-930-2249 or visiting www.glendaleaz.com/boardsandcommissions.
Become apart of boards and commissions
Some things to consider when applying for boards and commissions are an individual must attend a three-hour basic training class before being considered for an appointment. If appointed, attendance to all scheduled meetings is crucial and the city council can appoint a replacement for those members absent for two consecutive meetings, or for those who miss three regularly scheduled meetings in a calendar year.
