When Japan bombed the USS Arizona, it picked a fight with the United States. A sleeping giant woke in the American people that day. Woolbright has opponents picking on him similar to the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor. Now, Woolbright woke like a sleeping giant.

I met the nicest gentleman over the weekend at a local coffee shop. Sometimes, sharing a big table in a small room has advantages. He was in a briefing with another man that ended and I took the opportunity to introduce myself.

Phillip Woolbright is a conservative Republican. As a justice of the peace, he prompted cost-saving plans to reduce government spending, giving the burden of rehabilitation over to the offender instead of local taxpayers.

So glad a bicycle enthusiast like me, Phillip Woolbright, is running for justice of the peace in Peoria. A few months back, I went to court as the victim of a hit-and-run. A Walmart shopper leaving the store in a hurry on their phone slammed into my back tire, throwing me into the curb and railing.

My mother told me if you can’t say something good about a person you should keep your mouth shut. Mr. Ray Strahl, forget the attacks on Bart Turner in your hackneyed mailers and vitriolic robo calls. It’s distracting, petty, old fashioned and shows not a whit of imagination.

I have received several mailers and calls from Ray Strahl, who is running for the Glendale City Council in the Barrel District. The negative slant against his opponent Bart Turner is uncalled for.

I am supporting Ray Strahl in the upcoming city election, for councilman from the Barrel District.

Here we go again, another attempt by the mayor and city manager to run our city. The last thing we need is a yes mayor council, as we did when the finances got out of control.

Bart Turner is committed in doing the best possible job for the residents of the Barrel District and the city. It’s not easy being a city councilmember. Turner, along with the mayor and other councilmembers, has unselfish dedication of time and effort to serve the citizens of Glendale.

As a lifelong Democrat and 40-year resident of Glendale, I would like to explain why I am voting for Bart Turner for City Council (Barrel District).

We have a choice for city councilperson in the Barrel District. We can support our incumbent councilman, who has been and remains an educated voice of reason on a council that is dominated by a singular personality, or we can vote for a political newcomer who has been hand selected by the mayor.

Craig Wismer currently serves as the Justice of the Peace for the Arrowhead Justice Precinct covering Sun City, Peoria and Glendale. I have had the fortune or misfortune, as it may be, to have experienced his justice and was able to see him in action on four different occasions and was so im…

Do you think God is watching our elected officials? Our country seems to forget that our foundation is — “In God We Trust” — in our government. I am a man of faith, I am sharing a few thoughts on candidates who still trust in God. Supporting those candidates that keep God in our country dial…

The undersigned are officers and directors of the West Maricopa County Bar Association. It is our position that Phillip Woolbright is not qualified to hold the office of a justice of the peace.

I can’t help but remark on Lisa Corbin-Polak’s letter, “Difficult Times for Republicans.” What specifically is scandalous? A phony Russian collusion probe that still has no such proof? Yet, the scandal is that of the Dems and top officials of the FBI from the FISA court to Christoper Steele’…

The endorsements of the incumbents in The Glendale Star were the same as the Glendale Chamber ... rubber stamped. There was a new blog posted by Councilmember Joyce Clark today discussing this very point (www.joyceclarkunfiltered.com). Of my interview with the editorial staff of The Glendale…

It’s been an exciting time in Downtown Glendale since the launch of the new business-driven Historic Downtown Glendale Merchants Association (HDGMA). We were thrilled to see the story of the new association as a feature article in the Aug. 2 edition of The Glendale Star. However, the article…

Promises Made. Promises Kept. When Bart Turner was elected councilmember for the Barrel District four years ago, he promised Glendale he would work for fiscal responsibility, increase employment via a variety of new businesses, and bring a full-out stop to the subsidizing of professional spo…

I attended a Glendale Chamber Breakfast on August 3, 2018. Sure politics are often emotional, but that did not give Jamie Aldama who was representing the City of Glendale and Ocotillo District the license to act like a child who didn’t get his way in front of a 100 people

What should we look for in local candidates running for elected office? These individuals represent us and make a statement about our community. Are the “big” elections important? Of course, and much attention and money is spent. The local elections are where our choice can really impact us …

It must be difficult to be a Republican representative in the current administration, which is fraught with scandal and incompetence; however, I must rely on my elected officials to be a voice that continues to speak out for justice.

Our democracy is at stake with the current administration. We need to change now.

When I hear the name Craig Wismer, I immediately remember the genuine smile and cheerful “How may I help you” greeting of the young man who had a major role in Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl’s office.

There is really no more logical choice who we have to vote for Arrowhead Justice Court judge than Craig Wismer, the incumbent. He has done a fine job by all accounts after being elected to the job after his now opponent five years ago was removed by the Arizona Supreme Court for a long list …

It was shocking to read that Maricopa County Sheriff Penzone will not enforce the “stupid motorist law.” I always thought the job description of “sheriff” stated something about enforcing all laws.

I am completely appalled that politicians such as Jeff Flake, John McCain, and Debbie Lesko are not only not condemning children being held in internment camps in our country in cages, but that you are doing nothing about it at all.

Many Arizona families are looking forward to the fireworks displays happening this Fourth of July. But our furry family members are not. Those bursts of color we find so pretty and awe-inspiring often cause terror in pets.

I am writing to you to voice my support for Mr. Craig Wismer’s re-election as Arrowhead Justice of the Peace. I have known Craig as a customer of my local business for many years. I can confidently say he is one of the most sincere and honest people I know. I once reached out to Craig in a m…

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” These powerful words were conceived by American suffragist Alice Paul. In 1923, she envisioned that the women of America would be guaranteed the same freedoms and rights…

I would like to express my great disappointment in the budget process as I have read in The Glendale Star. Nowhere have I read, heard anything about giving some relief to the citizens, businesses and taxpayers of Glendale. Plenty of news on reacting to situations and patting yourself on the …

Around March 28, The Arizona Republic ran an article of a woman who nearly lost her home over $800 in back property taxes that she owed. The article by reporter, Rebekah Sanders, brought to light a problem that has been brewing since 2015 when a bill, HB 2653, by then Rep. Justin Olson exclu…

I want to thank the Goldwater Institute, our state Superintendent Diane Douglas, and legislators such as Kelly Townsend for so brazenly showing their true colors to the citizens of Arizona. Our state government has repeatedly violated the Arizona state Constitution by systematically starving…

The Food and Drug Administration’s food regulations do not allow live animals of any kind on the premises of a grocery store, a restaurant or other food establishment. There are exceptions; for instance, law enforcement dogs and service dogs for disabled persons.

I teach a lively group of third-graders, many of whom have been my students for both second and third grade. My 8- and 9-years-olds know they must always provide evidence from the text to support their answers when they turn in an assignment. What kind of teacher would I be if I did not expe…

Someone tell the teachers to go back to school. Why? Why should we turn on the people who are fighting for our children? What will happen when your ninth-grader has sixth-grade math proficiency because she has had two years of long-term subs instead of a qualified math teacher? What will hap…

The Agendas of the Goldwater Institute, Diane Douglas, Doug Ducey and the legislature:

The Letter To The Editor from Barbara Garland in the 4/26/18 newspaper was extremely well done. She explained the complicated stalemate we are facing while pointing out that the “Red for Ed” initiative is only aimed at one factor in a multi dimension situation.

Well, now the teachers are going to strike.  In the fifty years I have been associated with education in Arizona, they have never been this close to leaving their jobs and breaking their contracts.  Times have surely changed!  In the “olden” days the AFT was the only teachers’ union, founded…

I was born in Arizona, raised in Glendale, and I am an alumnus of Horizon Elementary School, Landmark Middle School, Apollo High School, and the University of Arizona.

The League of Women Voters of Northwest Maricopa County is very concerned about the potential impact of Commerce Secretary Ross’ announcement that the Census Bureau will include a question about citizenship in the 2020 Census.

Thank you, Trent Franks, for deciding not to run for re-election this year.

Glendale Councilmember Jamie Aldama, we can only hope that the sudden exposure to bright light did not permanently damage your eyesight.

Debbie Lesko is running for Trent Frank’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Arizonans should be very concerned about this development.  Replacing Franks, resigning over sexual harassment, with Lesko, someone eager to rape the Arizona public education system, doesn’t sound like the b…

Recent turmoil caused by President Trump announcing tariffs on imported steel and aluminum should not be new. Various industries have been affected by “dumping” of various foreign subsidized products.
