Group of children playing hide and seek

Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers is making the call “Let’s play ball!” with an open invite to kids who can’t get enough baseball.

Starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, kids will have three ways to homerun with a triple header at Sahuaro Ranch Sports Complex.

The day kicks off with a free MLB National Youth “Pitch, Hit, Run” skills competition, open to kids ages 7-14. After a 4:30 p.m. check-in, the competition begins at 5 p.m.

Next up, get ready for free USCM Mayor’s #Playball games and activities. Open to kids ages 2-14, it’s a sure hit. Check-in is at 6:30 p.m., with the competition at 7 p.m.

And wrap up this grand slam evening with a free family movie, “The Rookie,” at 8:15 p.m. This first-come, first-served screening is open only to the first 30 families, who can watch the film picnic style on a baseball field. Families will be socially distanced and must bring their own food/blankets/chairs.

Each event requires separate registration.

With so much to do, it is the perfect summer opener for baseball fans of all ages. And Glendale has space for more kids to sign up. Again, all events are free and there is lots of swag for kids to take home as well.
