Sports, dining and entertainment go together like a cheeseburger with bacon and peanut butter (a.k.a. “The Elvis Burger”). So it’s no surprise that the Westgate Entertainment Center is thriving. After all, it’s a short walk from the Arizona Cardinals’ nest State Farm Stadium and Arizona Coyotes’ den Gila River Arena.
Thursday night, the Coyotes host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Over at Westgate, A Man Called Ed will be singing at Fountain Park and Darren Carter cracking jokes at Stir Crazy Comedy Club.
Saturday night, pop goddess Cher sings - don’t crack the ice, please - at Gila River Arena.
With the big events happening, Westgate eating and drinking spots like Buffalo Wild Wings, Dave and Buster’s, Mama Gina’s, Chipotle, Johnny Rocket’s (paging Elvis…) and the Yard House should enjoy the jingling of cash registers.
Speaking of jingle bells, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Westgate has a holiday tree lighting, with a man named Claus making a special appearance.
Planning Commission news:
Genica Group of Companies asked to rezone 10 acres on the southwest corner of Citrus Way and 67th Avenue from R-4 (multiple residences) Zoning District to R1-4 (single-residence, planned residential overlay) Zoning District.
The Planning Commission approved, so it goes up the chain of command to city council.
The planning commission also granted Car Nation LLC a permit to sell autos at 5102 West Camelback Road (the northwest corner of 51st Avenue and Camelback Road).
