Danica Coral has always dreamed of being in the world of international business. Coral was born and raised in Queens, New York. Her parents are from South America and she would often visit there with her family. Coral said she vividly remembers the colorful and energetic street markets and local shops in South America and it was there that she was inspired to one day own her own business.

Coral said her parents valued the importance of hard work. She remembers her father working two to three jobs at a time, she said. Coral said her parents also stressed that education was key. Coral set her sights on obtaining degrees that would be critical to her success. She came to Arizona in 1999 to attend Arizona State University West and the Thunderbird School of Global Management where she earned her MBA and MiM. She returned to New York with her degrees in hand, but said she quickly began to miss the wide-open spaces and seeing Arizona’s star-filled evening skies. She moved back to Arizona in 2003 and began plans to open her first business. Coral said she searched the Valley to find the perfect location for her boutique. She said once she found Historic Downtown Glendale, her decision was easy to make. She said the area’s cute and quaint ambience along with the variety of restaurants and shops fit perfectly with her plans.

Pink House Boutique opened in November 2005, just in time for the annual Glendale Glitters season. The shop has quickly become a favorite destination for retro- and pinup-inspired clothing, locally made jewelry, eclectic accessories and refurbished finds. Over the years, Coral has opened her space to women-owned businesses who bring creativity, inspiration and fun items to the shop. Coral’s featured partners are Gina’s Original AZ and Bliss by Nikki G. Coral said she and her team love what they do, and they learn something new every day. Pink House Boutique offers the widest variety of retro and pinup clothing in the Valley. She said she focuses on finding items with quality fabric and an ideal fit that are machine washable. She said the quality shows in her items, which range in size from XS to 4X. Every product Coral brings to the shop, she personally loves.

Coral said her business is a labor of love and she is inspired by her business neighbors and the real and authentic experience they bring to the downtown area. She believes in the importance of working together to accomplish goals for the area, she said.

Coral’s global dream is growing. She now has a shop in New Orleans, Toxic Boutique, in the French Quarter. She said the new partnership has been a great learning experience.
