Residents are invited to gather their family, friends and little ones for a celebration of art at the Westgate Entertainment District Chalk Art Festival 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28. Watch as local artists create eight colorful and unique 8-foot murals throughout the district. Families can enjoy live music and unleash their inner artist as they make their own chalk masterpieces in the KidZone.
The festival offers an opportunity for fans to take home their favorite piece. April 28 through May 5, the public will have the chance to vote on its favorite mural at https://www.azbizarts.org/. One fan per venue will win the mural voted for. There will also be an online auction for each piece following the event for participants to bid for their favorite mural to benefit Southern Arizona & Arts Culture Alliance.
At the designated KidZone area will be a community mural for attendees to participate in creating. Chalk will be provided and art instructors will be on hand to assist participants.
Live music will be performed noon to 4 p.m. in Fountain Park by People Who Could Fly. People Who Could Fly is an indie pop band formed in 2013 and based in Phoenix. The band has performed with national acts including Rick Springfield, Howard Jones, Roger Clyne, and Reel Big Fish, and provided entertainment for The Arizona Cardinals NFL games in 2016.
