Two weeks after the May 13 death of Brittany Hand, 27, Glendale police arrested Brandon Kimbell, 28, and charged him with first-degree murder.
Police arrested his wife, Stephanie Kimbell, 29, and charged her with tampering with evidence and hindering an investigation.
“The victim resided in the apartment with the couple for several months in an abusive intimate relationship,” said Randy Stewart, a police spokesman.
After a 911 call just after midnight May 13, Glendale officers responded to an apartment near 5200 W. Thunderbird Road.
“The female caller, who was later identified as one of the suspects, reported to police that an unknown woman came to her apartment door and collapsed,” Stewart said.
Officers arrived on scene and located the unresponsive victim. Brandon Kimbell was kneeling next to her, Stewart said.
Hand was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
“Medical personnel advised detectives they believed the victim had been down much longer than was reported,” Stewart said.
“Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to collect evidence contrary to the initial story provided to them by the couple, that they did not know the victim and had discovered her on the doorstep,” Stewart said.
“Brandon Kimbell killed the victim using physical force, and Stephanie Kimbell assisted her husband with destroying physical evidence in the case,” Stewart said.
Detectives arrested the Kimbells Friday, June 5, near 43rd and Northern avenues.
