More “rapid-response” saliva tests for COVID-19 are coming to Glendale.

Through a partnership between Arizona State University and the Arizona Department of Health Services, saliva-based COVID-19 testing sites will be available.

The saliva tests are free and fast,  with results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours.

Several opportunities will be available in Glendale.

Dr. Joshua LaBaer, executive director of ASU’s Biodesign Institute, recommends that family gatherings remain small during the holidays. “This is not the year for large family gatherings,” said LaBaer.

LaBaer stresses close adherence to public health recommendations, including being tested as a precaution. Many people who test positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic.

“Doing things like opening public testing sites and developing tools that the public can use helps keep everyone in the community safe,” said LaBaer. “We’re here to help, and we want people to take advantage of the resources the state is making available through ASU.”

ASU’s Biodesign Institute has conducted more than 250,000 COVID-19 tests on ASU campuses and at more than 20 public testing sites across the state.

In partnership with the Arizona Department of Health Services, ASU will have testing sites in Glendale at State Farm Stadium Saturday, Nov. 28; Wednesday, Dec. 2; Saturday, Dec. 5; Wednesday, Dec. 9; and Saturday, Dec. 12. Tests will be scheduled from 6 to 11 a.m. each day.
