Glendale Fire Department

The Glendale Fire Department battled several house fires this week.

It was a busy week for the Glendale Fire Department, with smoke pouring and 911 calls after laundry, kitchen and garage fires throughout the city. Early on Tuesday, Dec. 15, nine people will be displaced this morning after a house fire near 71st and Glendale avenues.

“Just after 3:30 am, a homeowner was woken up by crackling noises from her side yard. She thought it was raining until she saw flames through the window. She grabbed her phone and proceeded to wake up the other eight family members to get everyone out safely,” said Chris James, a Glendale Fire Department spokesman.

He said firefighters fought “flames as tall as the two-story house.”

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
