The Glendale Planning Commission gave unanimous approval and forwarded its recommendation to the city council for approval of the new Zanjero Apartments that would be located near 91st and Glendale avenues.
Near Westgate, the new Zanjero Apartments complex would have 340 units built on 158 acres northeast of Cabela’s.
“This request by Earl, Curley and Lagarde P.C. for Fore Property Company and the first request is to rezone the area to allow a residential area entitled Zanjero Apartments,” Assistant Planning Director Tabitha Perry said. “This area contains areas zoned for hotels, restaurants, and entertainment and residential.”
The development would consist of 175 one-bedroom, 147 two-bedroom, and 18 three-bedroom apartments in the residential community. The multifamily complex would also offer 198 uncovered parking spaces, 320 covered parking spaces and 101 garages for a total of 619 parking space options for residents and guests. The site would have a maximum height of three stories for the buildings.
Presently a vacant lot, the proposed development would be a gated community and provide ample amenities for community use, such as two resort-style pools with cabanas and ramadas, whirlpool spas, a fitness center, and a park area to include a kids’ play structure.
“Prior to this meeting tonight, the developer was able to come to an agreement with Peoria Unified School District, and PUSD now supports this project,” Perry said.
Raymond S. Kellis High School is in close proximity to the project and Ed Boll, a spokesperson for the developer, said, “I agree with everything that Ms. Perry said about this and we appreciate the city staff recommending this proposal.”
The proposal now goes to the city council for approval and it is expected to be on the agenda for a vote sometime in March.
