There will be no Rattlers at Gila River Arena this season.
After postponing a season that was to begin earlier this month, the Indoor Football League (IFL) announced last week that the 2020 season has been canceled “due to the ongoing uncertainties surrounding COVID-19.”
The Glendale-based Arizona Rattlers and the IFL will resume in 2021.
“The Arizona Rattlers agree with the league’s decision announcing the cancellation of the 2020 season,” Rattlers majority owner and CEO Ron Shurts said. “The safety of our fans, players, coaches, front office and all employees is of the utmost importance, and due to concerns about COVID-19, it is necessary to cancel the season to ensure that.”
In the three seasons the Rattlers have been in the IFL, they have been in the conference championship every year and have gone to the United Bowl twice, winning once in 2017. The Rattlers spent 24 seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL), making 10 appearances in the ArenaBowl and winning the championship five times.
