The 5.5 magnitude Yuma earthquake Friday night felt by Glendale residents wasn’t the only earth moving this week.
En Fuego is breaking ground Monday, March 16, across from Westgate.
And Red Bull, even before opening its first facility in fast-expanding west Glendale, announced it will break ground on another huge building.
Last year, partners Ball Corporation, Raüch Fruit Juices and Red Bull started building a manufacturing facility on Reems Road between Olive and Peoria avenues.
Even as that plant is being built, Red Bull last week announced it is expanding in Glendale. A 700,000 square-foot distribution center will be built next to the manufacturing facility.
Both facilities are expected to be up and running in 2021.
“Here we grow again,” said Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers. “It is clear based on their renewed commitment to the City Red Bull’s experience here in Glendale and the region has been a positive one and we look forward to working with them for years to come.”
Gov. Doug Ducey also weighed in on the plan. “This expansion by Red Bull speaks to the strength of Arizona’s economy and what our state has to offer growing companies,” said Ducey. “We congratulate the company on their success and thank them for their continued investment in Arizona.”
According to Market Research Reports, Red Bull is the leader of the country’s $8 billion energy drink market with 35% of the share. “Red Bull’s decision to increase its presence in Glendale is a testament to the talent, infrastructure, pro-business environment and quality of life businesses are finding in the West Valley and throughout Arizona,” said Sandra Watson, Arizona Commerce Authority president/CEO.
While Red Bull, White Claw and others are transforming the former farmlands near Loop 303, projects are accelerating across the city on the east side of Glendale.
En Fuego will break ground across Glendale Avenue from Westgate Entertainment District and across Zanjero Boulevard from Cabela’s sporting goods store.
En Fuego is also within a mile of Desert Diamond Casino West Valley.
According to marketing material, a Starbucks coffee, Raising Cane’s, Barro’s Pizza, Jack in the Box and Biscuits Cafe are listed as tenants of En Fuego.
Another development will build the 310-unit Zanjero Apartments as a northern neighbor of En Fuego.
Between the apartments, on the north side of the property, and the businesses facing Glendale Avenue, En Fuego marketing material shows open spaces for “retail, entertainment, office.”
This area near the sporting venues, Westgate and the casino is growing fast, according to marketing information for En Fuego, which lists as bullet points:
•Twenty-three new residential developments currently being built in the Westgate area (3,821 total new homes).
•Thirteen new and existing multi-family developments near Westgate (3,196 total units).
•Thirteen new and existing hotels near Westgate (2,074 total hotel rooms).
